In an era where Hollywood has become
risk-adverse in its search for the next sure-bet blockbuster, adapting
pre-existing material has always had a place in its heart. And when
it comes to making money on established characters found in comic books,
there's no denying the past box-office success of the likes of Batman,
Superman, X-Men and its ilk - and indeed none more impressive than The
Dark Knight.
Yet, while super-hero comic books have
often taken over much of the attention when it comes to adaptations of the
graphic novel medium, there's much more to "comic-books" than
that. French graphic novels and Japanese manga have always been
quite diverse, as has been the independent scene. So here's a list
of some popular - and some not so evident - adaptations that are most
definitely worth a look. |
